Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas movies that have fun special fx.
Todays pic is How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) staring Jim Carey. It’s creepy to see a life-size version of the Grinch. Even if it wasn’t the best Christmas movie, you got to give it to a film where EVERYONE has a prosthetic face… except for Cindy Lou Who (she must be adopted). Actually all the Who kids have normal faces. I guess they mutated after puberty. And, has anyone notices the Grinch has man-boobs? He does carry quiet a bit of weight around the middle so it makes sense. Anyway, I can only imagine what the days were like on set for the crowd scenes. All hail Rick Baker and his team of artist!
Synopsis: Dr. Seuss’s much-loved story about the real meaning of Christmas finally makes it to the big screen in live-action form, with Jim Carrey starring in the titular role of the green-faced villain who plots to rob Whoville of the holiday celebration. The Grinch has been an outcast all his life, but a dash of kindness from little Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) and her family may be enough to melt his heart.
In a movie like this, the makeup department is a mile long. Here is a list, from IMDB, of makeup/special fx artist whose work made How the Grinch Stole Christmas interesting to watch.
